When The Morning Breaks

Hints of day bubble through the surf of dew
Akin the rays of light through the dawn's fog
Rise with the vine that espouses the walls
Fences and trees still lost in hazy dreams

Flowers soon wake and shine
Open petals of crocus, or roses, often
Smooth pinks or reds, crimson rough, yellows
To hold the earth, fragant nails, day candles.

Before the day folds at half mast they stand
Green and light in the sun, dark green in shade
Absent petals and blooms, blossoms roughly kissed
By the loving tongues of deers and such.

Mats upon mats of ant scale trees
Dance echoing the breeze, going to and fro
Shiny bellies some, shadowy backs some more
Reflect in the clearwater eyes of the children's smile.
